Description
In March 2016 the Government of Canada provided an additional $12 million over two years to SCN to continue to support excellence and global leadership in translational stem cell research. The three key funding programs are:
Impact Research Agreements: Eligible projects will fall under one of three categories: clinical translation, commercialization or public policy. These projects are best suited to research that is ready to move down a translational path, or will support the development of evidence-based policies and practices.
Disease Team Research Agreements: Eligible projects will bring together multiple investigators with different expertise who will collaborate on initiatives that are developing novel cellular or stem cell-related therapeutic approaches to tissue repair and regeneration for specific diseases. Examples of such diseases include, but are not restricted to, diabetes, heart disease, septic shock and lung disease.
Clinical Trial Research Agreements: Eligible projects will be phase 1 or 2 clinical trials and have received Health Canada approval. It is expected that successful projects will show incremental benefit to the patient, as well as provide an economic analysis of the potential cost of treatment compared to current best-available standard of care.
