Aphids on strawberries - Michael Mucci
Aphids are a destructive plant pest often found in greenhouses. This cluster of aphids was found on strawberries (Fragaria vesca) being grown in the University of Guelph Phytotron by graduate student Wendy Van Drunen. Wendy's research focuses on the relationship between polyploidy and clonal reproduction in the angiosperms, using a variety of approaches from mathematical modelling to large-scale manipulative experiments. The photo was taken during my weekly scouting routine in the Phytotron. The strawberries are alive and well; the aphids are being managed using the biocontrol predator Aphidoletes aphidimyza (not pictured).
