Dawn of the Renewable Age
The Centre for Agricultural Renewable Energy and Sustainability (CARES) investigates conversion of dairy manure, crop residues, and organic waste into biogas using anaerobic digestion. Methane-rich biogas can be combusted to generate renewable electricity, or upgraded to produced renewable natural gas (RNG). Liquid digestate remaining after the process is an organic fertilizer. At CARES, research into the anaerobic digestion process, pretreatment technologies for enhanced energy recovery, and environmental impacts of renewable energy processes are investigated.
