Precision in Progress: Leveling Up with GPS
Agricultural soils emit substantial nitrous oxide, primarily due to nitrogen-based fertilizers. Effective nitrogen management is crucial for greenhouse gas mitigation. Given cover crops' ability to absorb and retain excess nitrogen after the cropping season, their use garners attention. In a winter wheat-corn-soybean rotation, farmers integrate cover crops post-winter wheat for enhanced soil health. In this research, a student employs GPS precision to plot and prepare for planting various cover crop species in different plots, contributing to sustainable agricultural practices and the mitigation of greenhouse gases.
