To raise a thriving lamb, the work begins by establishing a firm foundation of excellent ewe health. At the University of Guelph’s sheep research station, we are studying how the mineral selenium may improve ovine reproductive and immune system functions.
This little lamb with the pink animal marker stripe on her face just had her blood collected. Using the serum, we measure the IgG antibodies specific to the clostridial vaccination her dam received to assess how well the ewe’s protective antibodies transferred to the lamb.
