Submitted by dfoolen on May 8th, 2023 11:30 AM

SEDRD faculty and students received recognition at the Association for International Agricultural and Extension Education (AIAEE) conference at the University of Guelph in Canada. Dr. Ataharul Chowdhury [1] and his team received the outstanding poster presentation award for their work on "A Framework for Researching and Understanding (Agri-Food) Misinformation in Social Media and Online Communities of Practice."

Dr. Khondokar Kabir [2], a Banting postdoctoral fellow at the School of Environmental Design and Rural Development (SEDRD) at the University of Guelph, presented the poster on behalf of the team. The framework presented in the poster aims to provide a comprehensive framework for researching and understanding the spread of misinformation in the agri-food context, including the characterization of mis-dis-malformation, source identification, diffusion mechanisms, stakeholder impacts, detection tactics, and mis-dis-malformation curtailment and countermeasures. The team's work has been recognized for its contribution to the field and its potential to help address the challenges posed by misinformation in the agri-food industry. Other co-authors of the Poster include Md Firoze Alam, a doctoral student in the Rural Studies program.

In addition to this recognition, Dr. Chowdhury was also honoured with the 'Outstanding Leadership' award by the award committee of the AIAEE. This award [3] is given to someone who has demonstrated substantial leadership contributions to international agricultural and extension education for at least 10 years. Serving as the association's secretary for the past three years, he played a vital role in advancing agricultural and extension education globally. Dr. Chowdhury expressed his gratitude for the recognition and highlighted the importance of agricultural education in addressing the worldwide challenges facing the agriculture sector.

Congratulations to Dr. Ataharul Chowdhury and his team on their well-deserved recognition and contributions to agricultural extension, innovation and capacity development!
