At the recent 2014 Rural Research KTT Day:  Rural Networking-Research into Action Conference two students from the School of Environmental Design and Rural Development received the following awards:

Sara Epp, a Rural Studies PhD student received first prize in the Graduate Student Research poster design contest for her poster titled "Conflict in the Countryside: Understanding the Impacts of Residential Development on Agricultural Land".

Bakhtawar Khan, a Capacity Development and Extension MSc student received third prize for her poster titled "Caring for and Catering to the Needs of Rural Youth". 

The event was hosted by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food and Ministry of Rural Affairs and the University of Guelph on April 29, 2014. The Rural Development research theme addresses topics of the rural/urban interface, rural economic development, rural infrastructure, community capacity, labour market, promotion of innovation, and rural quality of life and challenges.
