University of Guelph, Rozanski Hall, Room 106
Networking for social and environmental change globally is the motivation for the Glocal Online Classroom. We are four universities on four continents who have decided to build a global platform for collaboration and interchange in web-based learning, Starting in Stellenbosch, South Africa, in March, continuing in Guelph, Canada, in May, Malmö, Sweden, in September and ending at Flinders University in Adelaide, Australia, in November, we shall be carrying out a world series of seminars hosted by the participating universities.
The Guelph Seminar May 22-23, 2014 focuses on communication for social and environmental change. Together with CFRU 93.3, we will webcast and broadcast a World Café. In the World Café community media volunteers, researchers and activists will critically reflect on their experiences with communication and media for social and environmental change.
Other sessions in the two-day seminar will consider communication and community engagement in rural and remote areas of Canada, participatory video and filmmaking, journalism within the community and international development context, community informatics and the use of information and communication technologies for teaching and learning globally and learning
Participants in the seminar will attend virtually using the Glocal Classroom portal. There are also spaces available to attend some or the entire seminar in person. This is a free and open access event.
This pioneering initiative offers us an integrated classroom for communication and development studies. We are truly communicating and learning glocally.
