Required Qualifications:
Applicants must:
(a) Have completed a B.Sc. degree in Chemistry or a related field,
(b) Be enrolled in a Department of Chemistry graduate program OR be enrolled in a chemistry-related graduate program with a completed BSc in chemistry,
(c) Be able to demonstrate an enthusiasm for teaching,
(d) Be able to demonstrate an ability to create and maintain a safe work place,
(e) Be able to complete assigned duties as instructed in an efficient and timely manner,
(f) Have at least 4 months experience teaching or conducting research in chemistry laboratories,
(g) Be able to demonstrate previous satisfactory teaching performance, and
(h) Applicants must also be able to provide documentation they have completed the following training programs: Lab Safety Training (EHS), WHMIS Training (EHS), Worker Health & Safety Awareness (EHS), Accessible Service Provision (CourseLink) and Making Education Accessible (CourseLink).
Please note: By applying for this work assignment, you are agreeing to be available on campus from the start of the contract to complete all assigned duties, available to attend all mandatory meetings, complete accurate and consistent marking by assigned deadlines with written feedback, invigilate and grade midterm exams, cover Chemistry Learning Center (CLC) shifts, and be available to the end of the contract to invigilate and grade final exams. Although every effort will be made to assign TAs to their preferred laboratory section days/times, we cannot guarantee to meet your preference. You should be prepared to accept any available laboratory section, except for incidences when an assignment conflicts with a graduate course for which you are enrolled. First time TAs with the Department will usually not be assigned to laboratory sections scheduled on Mondays or evenings (although there are some exceptions).
Selection of successful candidates will be made in accordance with Article 11.04 of the CUPE 3913-1 collective agreement. Assignments to particular courses will be made in accordance with departmental needs and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications:
(a) Be enrolled in a Chemistry graduate program,
(b) Have completed a BSc in Chemistry,
(c) Have previously taken CHEM*1040 and CHEM*1050 as an undergraduate student or have experience teaching in CHEM*1040 or CHEM*1050,
(d) Have experience teaching in chemistry laboratories at Guelph
(e) Have completed the Supportive Teaching: Fostering Psychological Safety for Effective Learning workshop and obtained the corresponding certificate.
