Being an effective communicator is quickly becoming a crucial tool for being a good scientist. In this 1.0 credit capstone course, students work in teams to explore and address an authentic biological problem using an integrative and interdisciplinary approach. Topics are proposed by an external client or source and will focus on a problem-related to societal needs (e.g, food, health, environment), advanced technologies (e.g., genetic modification), or aspirations (e.g., sustainability). Students will develop skills in problem identification and research, stakeholder analysis, ideation of solutions, and communication to address the client’s needs. IMPORTANT NOTE: U of G will progress its return to more conventional course delivery and offer in-person instruction for most courses in Winter 2022 in line with the Provost’s letter of Oct 18, 2021(https://news.uoguelph.ca/2021/10/update-on-plans-for-winter-2022-semester/). Compliance with the COVID-19 Vaccination Policy (https://www.uoguelph.ca/hr/staff-faculty-hr-policies-support-staff/713-covid-19-vaccination-policy) will continue to be required.

Required Qualifications
Degree: 
PhD in progress in course content
Prior Teaching Experience: 
Successful teaching related to field at college or university level
Minimum of 1 year experience with classroom teaching or group facilitation.
Required competence, capability, skill and ability related to course content: 
The successful applicant should have demonstrated success with classroom instruction and group facilitation, and particular experience promoting skills related to interdisciplinary problem solving, teamwork and knowledge translation in a scientific context.
Preferred Qualifications
Degree: 
PhD related to field
Prior Teaching Experience: 
Many years of successful teaching related to contents of the course.
