The Tobacco- and Smoke-Free Campus policy provides exemptions for:
- a person who smokes or holds lighted tobacco in a scientific research and testing facility for conducting research or testing with tobacco or tobacco products
- smoking, burning or use of traditional medicines, including tobacco products, by an Indigenous person or persons accompanied by an Indigenous person for Indigenous spiritual or cultural purposes, in keeping with the exceptions in the Smoke-Free Ontario Act. Further definitions are in the Tobacco- and Smoke-Free Campus Policy [1]. Smoking and burning of traditional medicines is done in accordance with the University’s Smudging Procedure [2].
