Who we are
Universities Fighting World Hunger (UFWH) is an international organization focused on sustainable human development. Through action on university campuses UFWH creates a learning environment where intellectual discovery and social responsibility converge in pursuit of a sustainable world – a world that protects our natural environment and enhances human health and well-being for present and future generations – a world in which hunger is eliminated.
This international initiative started in 2004 as a partnership between the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and Auburn University. Since that time, UFWH has expanded to a coalition of more than 300 universities that have joined the fight against hunger and malnutrition at home and abroad.
This year is the tenth anniversary of the partnership between UFWH and the World Food Programme. Come to the Summit in Canada and be part of a dialogues among governments, businesses, schools and not for profit agencies. It is also a call to universities to join the “PUSH” initiative – an active commitment by presidents of universities and students to commit to ending hunger and poverty through research, community action and advocacy.
The theme of this year’s Summit is “Pushing towards the next decade”
