College of Biological Science
The College of Biological Science (CBS) is a world-renowned academic faculty dedicated to expanding our understanding of life, from DNA to cells to complex ecosystems, and the only faculty in Canada solely dedicated to the biological sciences.
CBS produces innovative, cutting-edge research in a student-centred learning environment. Our unique constellation of infrastructure, institutes, facilities and research stations enable interdisciplinary partnerships and collaboration that lead to impactful research, scholarship and teaching opportunities.
CBS is home to about 100 full-time faculty and 50 full-time staff. The college offers 11 undergraduate and 12 graduate degree programs across three departments: Human Health and Nutritional Sciences, Integrative Biology, and Molecular and Cellular Biology. Nearly 5,000 undergraduate students, 400 graduate students, and many thousands of engaged alumni are members of the vibrant CBS community.
Our Departments
Human Health and Nutritional Sciences
The Department of Human Health and Nutritional Sciences conducts research on aging, diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, nutrition, exercise, biomechanics, and metabolism, among other topics. The department offers undergraduate majors in Human Kinetics, Nutritional and Nutraceutical Sciences, Bio-Medical Sciences, and Neuroscience, as well as master’s and doctoral degrees in Human Health and Nutritional Sciences.
Integrative Biology
The Department of Integrative Biology consists of faculty who lead research in three overlapping themes, including comparative animal physiology, ecology, and evolutionary biology. The department offers undergraduate majors in Ecology, Marine and Freshwater Biology, Wildlife Biology and Conservation, and Zoology, as well as master’s and doctoral degrees in Integrative Biology and a Master of Wildlife Biology.
Molecular and Cellular Biology
Faculty in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology direct research programs that involve multidisciplinary approaches to novel biological questions at the level of molecules to cells. The department offers undergraduate majors in Biochemistry, Microbiology, Molecular Biology and Genetics, and Neuroscience, as well as master’s and doctoral degrees in Molecular and Cellular Biology.
