Ontario Crops Research Centre – Bradford
The Ontario Agricultural College opened the Bradford Muck Crops Research Station (MCRS) in 1947. Now known as the Ontario Crops Research Centre – Bradford, it consists of 9.65 acres (3.9 hectares), and is located in central Ontario in the Holland Marsh – one of Ontario’s largest and unique pockets of organic soil consisting of 60 to 70 per cent organic matter. Research areas and outcomes
The Ontario Crops Research Centre in Bradford is dedicated to research on vegetable crops grown on organic soils. Research is done on varieties of cultivars, bio-controls, weed control, insect control, disease control, nutrient management and other production practices. Post-harvest physiology and storage research is conducted during the fall and winter period.
