Developing a harvesting robot for tomato greenhouses: Expanded field testing and enhancing performance

Lead Applicant: Medhat Moussa

Research Priority: Competitive Production Systems

Program Type: Tier 1

Funding Cycle: 2024/2025

Research Centre: NA

Research Summary: The objective of this project is to test and validate a robotics system for harvesting tomatoes in greenhouses. Harvesting is a labour intensive task in greenhouses accounting for 30-50% of all costs. This technology has been in development for many years and recent advances show significant progress towards achieving a robotic solution that satisfies operational constraints while being economically feasible. This project aims to test the system in commercial greenhouses for an extended period and on different cultivars to validate its suitability for commercial deployment.
