History Essay Workshops are held in Mackinnon 309 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.
On Monday, Feb. 27, our topic: Sorting sources and tailoring thesis statements
Some of Canada’s most respected and popular War of 1812 historians will gather at the University of Guelph Feb. 25 for a War of 1812 bicentennial symposium. The event, which is open to the public, will include re-enactors in period costumes, storytelling, public talks and battle re-creations. Uniformed “soldiers” will help direct people to the conference, to be held in Rozanski Hall.
“How to Write a Successful History Paper”
This workshop is designed for students in their 1st, 2nd and 3rd year of studies who want help with creating more effective history essays. It will discuss how to avoid grammatical and structural errors common to history papers; teach how to write more effective strategies for constructing introductory and concluding paragraphs; help you develop better paraphrasing skills for secondary material; show how to incorporate direct quotes from primary documents; and clarify issues with dreaded ‘thesis statements'.
