Gender in Scotland, 1200-1800: Place, Politics and Faith is a Festschrift in honour of Dr. Elizabeth Ewan, Professor of History Emerita (University of Guelph).
Edited by Janay Nugent (University of Lethbridge), Cathryn Spence (University of Guelph), and Mairi Cowan (UofT- Mississauga), it is published with Edinburgh University Press. This interdisciplinary collection features twelve chapters from scholars from the UK, Canada, and the US exploring the role of gender in shaping premodern Scottish identity and history.
Medieval and Early Modern Scottish Gender History is flourishing, and this volume brings together its leading scholars to display the fruits. Themed around place, faith and politics, these cutting-edge essays consider questions of women’s agency, presence and power in shaping Scottish society and economy. An important state of the field. – Katie Barclay, University of Adelaide
The book launch will feature remarks from contributors, including short readings and discussions from their chapters.
