Sofie LaChapel le is a historian of science and author of Investigating the Supernatural: F rom Spiritism an Occultism to Psychical Research and Metapsychics in France , 1853-1931 (John Hopkins University Press, 2011). In her current work, sh e explores the world of nineteenth-century magicians and the relationships b etween science, magic and wonder during this period.
