21st Century Philosophy (PHIL3280)
Term: Fall 2015
Details
This course will focus on recent developments in the areas of moral philosophy and the study of practical reasoning. We will read Philippa Foot’s Natural Goodness (2001), Christine Korsgaard’s Self-Constitution (2009), and selections from Derek Parfit’s On What Matters (2011). These three texts are representative of the three now dominant strands of moral philosophy: neo-Aristotelian, Kantian, and consequentialism. Evaluation will be based on presentations, short writings, and a research paper.
