Description
My current research circulates around issues relating to constructions of gender and masculinity in the context of the middle class in late Victorian and Edwardian England. In particular, I am interested in formations of middle-class heterosexual masculinity and the demise for this mode of masculinity in the latter part of the 19th-century. The focus of my work is the theatrical expression of gender and sexuality in plays written the late 19th and early 20th-centuries, with attention to how such interests are manifest through performance. This is an area of research I moved into roughly ten years ago, but as I have done so, I have maintained an active interest in my earlier areas of research: contemporary Canadian and British women playwrights.
