Current Research

My research is framed by an interest in the stories we tell about the making (and remaking) of rural society and the rural economy in Canada from 1600 to 1939. One element has been to analyze consumption in the Upper Canadian countryside, based on rural families' charge accounts at country stores. I continue to take an interest in the work of rural historians (faculty and graduate students) at the University of Guelph, but am not in a position to undertake new responsibilities for thesis supervision.
