Kiera Obbard is a PhD graduate of Literary Studies, School of English and Theatre Studies at the University of Guelph. Her current research is situated at the intersection of contemporary Canadian poetry, social media, and digital humanities. Specifically, she is interested in poetry disseminated on social media platforms like Instagram, and how new genres of poetry can disrupt the publishing industry and the ways in which we engage with and read literature in the digital age.

She completed an M.A. in Cultural Studies and Critical theory at McMaster University and an Honours B.A. with a joint major in English and Communication at the University of Ottawa. She is currently a fellow at The Humanities Interdisciplinary Collaboration (THINC) Lab, an editorial board member of the Centre for Media and Celebrity Studies and WaterHill Publishing, and she works full-time at the Waterloo-based software company OpenText.
