Major Texts in Philosophy (PHIL*4410)

Term: Winter 2013

Details

The aim of the course is to introduce students to the major issues in social and political
philosophy such as theories of justice, democracy, rights, etc. through a close
examination of the canonical text(s) in social and political philosophy. In this course we
will be studying Kant’s Political Writings in order to critically examine his position with
respect to the above-mentioned issues. Students are encouraged to critically reflect on
these topics by way of discussion and presentation in the class. At the end of the course
they not only should have a grasp of Kant’s contribution but also an appreciation of its
significance for the contemporary theories of social and political philosophy.
