Philosophy Field Course (PHIL*4160)
Term: Winter 2015
Details
The Philosophy Field Course is a full credit, small seminar course with a significant off campus, non-classroom component.
In W15 the Philosophy Field course will deal with art (mainly visual) and with issues in the philosophy of art. The off-campus component of the course will involve visits to the artists, galleries, gallery curators, and academics in disciplines outside philosophy (e.g. design; architecture). Field-trips will visit locations in Guelph and Toronto. This course will involve a significant research project (not necessarily an essay) as well as regular short reflective and analytical written pieces. There will be some classroom discussion of texts in the philosophy of art. A significant portion of the grade will be for participation which is essential for this course.
