Details
The final meeting for Philosophy in the Dark this semester will tease the exploration of sacred / profane through music, considering the horror of creativity and agency of the nonhuman – particularly that of machines. The music explored in this meeting provides two philosophically interesting meditations: [1] the theological and ontological thought of theorist and writer Georges Bataille and the transgressive agency of the nonhuman or excessive drives and eroticism that produce a type of horror for traditional theology, and [2] the ability for the machine to act as anthrodecentric interlocutor – through uncanny loops, failure, withdrawal and ‘screams’.
