Feryn (she/her) is a PhD student in the Literary Studies program at the University of Guelph. She completed her Honours BA at Ryerson University and her MA at the University of Guelph. Feryn’s Master’s thesis, titled “White Women in the Medina: Race, Gender, and Women’s Travel Writing on Morocco,” analyzed the ways in which Orientalist discourses are articulated by white women through the lens of their race, gender, and class within the medium of travel literature. Though she has a background in postcolonial theory and travel writing, her PhD work currently focuses on fiction and non-fiction written by transgender and gender variant authors while examining the relationship between transgender studies and queer theory.
