Aylin Malcolm teaches courses on literature before 1700 and the environmental humanities. Their book project, Every Living Soul: Literature and Zoology in England, 1100–1400, explores medieval descriptions of animals—from dogs to whales—in relation to reason, experimentation, and grief. Their other research interests include premodern astronomy, maritime history, and the digital editing of medieval manuscripts.
Prof. Malcolm is currently coediting two special issues on “Premodern Digital Ecologies” and “Medieval Trans Studies.” Their writing is forthcoming in Medieval Ecocriticisms, The Routledge Companion to Global Chaucer, and A Cultural History of Nature in the Medieval Era.
