I started in physics, switched to Bio-Med, then finished with a degree in biology at U of G. During undergrad I was interested in computer programming and taught myself C++. On a lark, I used my learned skills to try algorithmic trading, and realized I loved completing cool AI and automation programming projects. Combining these interests, I excitedly enrolled in the U of G Master of Bioinformatics program. I enjoyed my experience in the program.
The program enabled me to get a great job at Vineland Research and Innovation Centre. The experience here has been immense. I’ve learned so much about genome assembly, NGS analysis, servers, cluster computing, variant mining, restriction enzymes, machine learning, PCR primer design, diversity/relatedness phylogenetic analysis, genetic linkage maps, QTL mapping, genome browsers, etc. I get to do all of it, on a variety of different species.
