Software Engineering Talk: Andrew Hilts of Luum.com

On Tuesday November 5, Andrew Hilts of Luum.com will be on campus to speak to students interested in careers in the software development industry.

The talk will be held from 4-5:30 in the John T. Powell building, room 212.

Andrew Hilts is a researcher, analyst, and web developer working on software tools that help people to improve the communities in which they live. He currently works for Luum.com as a Program Manager, performing tasks such as requirements gathering, specifications development, strategic planning, and writing a whole bunch of SQL. Andrew received a Master’s degree in Informations Systems & Design from the University of Toronto in 2011, and was accepted for PhD studies there, but decided to go the industry route — at least for now.

Luum (http://luum.com) is a Canadian company developing a social-first, online transportation engagement platform. The central focus is trip logging — inputting data about one's transit behaviour (time, mode, distance, route taken …). Through intrinsic motivators like competition, teamwork, social comparison, and goal-setting as well as extrinsic incentives such as prizes, Luum encourages citizens to take healthier and more socially responsible transportation modes in their commutes. We strongly believe these motivators help ensure continued usage of the Luum platform, and behavioural change towards healthier transportation choices.
