SoCS and SoE Students Win With RedTree Robotics

In early July, Montreal was host to the International Startup Festival - an event that brought together entrepreneurs from around the world, along with potential investors, experts, and a variety of speakers. The School of Computer Science and the School of Engineering are proud to announce that PhD Candidates Jason Ernst (SoCS), and Tom Hummel (SoE) pitched their startup RedTree Robotics at the event, and were awarded $100,000 as a result.

Community Honours

Last Wednesday the Guelph Mercury announced the 2014 recipients of the 40 Under 40 awards.

The awards honour members of the Guelph community who are under 40 years old and who exhibit "unique quality of character and exceptional contributions to their community."

Convocation 2014

Congratulations to the graduating class of 2014.

This week 24 undergraduate and 3 graduate students walked across the stage in War Memorial Hall to receive their degrees in B. Comp. or B. Soft Eng. from the School of Computer Science.

Andrew Halligan, who was in the B. Comp. co-op stream, was awarded the Governor General's Silver Medal for achieving an overall average of 96.75%.

Student Award Winners

Congratulations to Andrew Halligan and Jennifer Winer - winners of the School of Computer Science Capstick awards.

The Dr. Charles Capstick Graduation Prize is awarded to the top two students (by cumulative average at graduation) in the School of Computer Science.

Jennifer has also been awarded the CPES Society of Excellence award, and Andrew has been named the winner of the Governor General's Silver Medal.

Great job Andrew and Jennifer.

Spring Academic Open House

Last Wednesday the School of Computer Science welcomed prospective students and their families to the University of Guelph for the 2014 Spring Academic Open House.

Prospective students and their families were invited to tour the campus, and to take part in several short talks by students, staff, and faculty. The morning began with a presentation about the various programs in the SoCS by Greg Klotz (Undergraduate Program Counsellor & Industry Liaison Officer), Stefan Kremer (Director of the SoCS), and Laura Gatto (co-op co-ordinator for the SoCS).
