Student Research Network

What is the Student Research Network (SRN)?

The Student Research Network (SRN) is a hybrid space featuring in-person and virtual opportunities for students to build connections, partake in professional development opportunities, socialize, share knowledge, and develop valuable research skills.

It is open to all students interested or engaged in research! Whether you are a research assistant, working on your thesis, a co-op student, a graduate student, volunteering, a visiting international student, or even just thinking about wanting to do research in the future, we would love for you to join us.

The Student Research Network is a colloaboration between the Office of Quality Assurance and the Experiential Learning Hub.

Fall/Winter vs. Summer

Recognizing that fewer students are on campus during the summer, we prioritize building new connections through professional development events and socials. From May to August, we host approximately two weekly events through a combination of in-person and virtual events, with more events taking place off-campus and around Guelph.

Moving into the fall and winter, the Discord community will continue connecting students interested or engaged in research through professional development opportunities and socials. The fall and winter semesters look a little bit different compared to the summer semester, with a greater emphasis on acting as a liaison between existing resources:

  • Connecting you to campus resources, research opportunities, job postings, and more: With so many opportunities happening across campus, we want to ensure you know about them first! Expect weekly announcements informing you about what campus departments are doing and where and how you can expand your skills and knowledge as a researcher.

  • Occasional organized events: With so much already going on in the fall and winter, there is a reduced number of monthly events. We will host two to four monthly events and ensure a mix of off-campus, on-campus, and virtual events.

  • Increased on-campus presence: We spread awareness about the community by creating a more physical presence on campus, including some appearances at the Experiential Learning Hub’s events, physical event posters, and more.
