Preparing for the Summer Undergraduate Research Showcase

Please follow the steps below to prepare for the Undergraduate Research Showcase on August 19 and 20, 2024.

Step-by-Step Showcase Preparation Instructions

  1. Attend the Showcase Orientation.
  2. Register for the Research Showcase
  3. You will receive an email on Monday, August 12 to register for your presentation timeslot timeslot.
  4. Prepare your 5 min presentation.
    • This should be a high-level overview of your findings, assuming your audience has little technical knowledge of your discipline. Use plain language and try to covey why your research matters to the broader community.
    • Your presentation will be delivered live on Microsoft Teams during your scheduled presentation slot.
    • You should prepare digital media (e.g. PowerPoint, images etc.) that can be displayed during your presentation.
    • Make sure to anticipate and prepare for questions.

Developing Your Poster Content and Presentation

A poster presentation should be a concise summary of your research findings and process. Your audience will most want to know what you learned, the process you used to arrive at your conclusions, and the implications of your findings for the discipline and/or society.

  • This is an excellent starting point, especially if you are new to poster presentations.
  • There are tons of resources to help with planning of layout and graphics for your presentation.

  • This is an example of great presentation skills and using storytelling to make a presentation accessible and interesting. 
  • Not a traditional poster presentation as there is only one slide on the screen that features visuals related to his research focus.
