Brady Deaton, a Professor in FARE and the McCain Family Chair in Food Security, recently organized and hosted a First Nation dialogue focused on economic growth and development in First Nation communities. Owen Roberts provides an excellent synopsis of the dialogue and issues, including a call for increased partnerships to grow First Nations economies. You can find more details of the discussion here:

Alan Ker, a Professor in the Department and Director of the Institute for the Advanced Study of Food and Agricultural Policy, will be in the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics at Virginia Tech University later this week, where he will give a talk on rating crop insurance policies on March 23.

Dr. Chad Lawley, Dept. of Agribusiness and Agricultural Economics, University of Manitoba will present "Ownership Restrictions and Farmland Values: Evidence from the 2003 Saskatchewan Farm Security Act Amendment, on Monday, March 26, 2018, 2:30-3:30 pm in Room 107 MCLN.

FARE was well represented at this year's Canadian Agricultural Economics Society's Agricultural Policy Conference, held in Ottawa on January 24-26. Alan Ker, Director of the Institute for the Advanced Study of Food and Agricultural Policy and Professor in FARE, organized this year's event, which included topics ranging from NAFTA 2.0 to food security to business risk management.

Alan Ker, a faculty member in FARE and Director of the Institute for the Advanced Study of Food and Agricultural Policy, was recently interviewed by Country Guide regarding risk management in Canadian agriculture and NAFTA.

The Master of Science defence for Yuxi (Joy) Li took place on Friday, January 5, 2018 at 1:00 pm in Room 101, JD McLN Building. The title of her presentation is “Destination-Specific Export Competitivesness of the Hog & Cattle Sectors in Ontario and in Canada”.
