Use of in-line skates, roller skates, skateboards and hoverboards
To establish a policy for the use of in-line skates, roller skates, skateboards and hoverboards on University of Guelph property and at associated regional college campuses.
The campuses of the University are primarily pedestrian. However, it is recognized that the campus infrastructures are also used by motorists, bicyclists, skateboarders, in-line skaters, hoverboarders and persons using various other modes of transportation.
Regulation of these devices is deemed necessary to reduce the risk of injury to both the user of the device and others using the campus; to prevent use that causes damage to property; and to prevent uses that are disruptive to University operations or programming.
In-line skating, skateboarding, roller skating and hoverboarding on campuses, whether for recreation or transportation, must meet the basic requirements of common courtesy and are to be conducted in a safe manner, giving priority to pedestrians, particularly individuals who are mobility-impaired, as well as cooperating with motorists on campus.
In-line skates, roller skates, skateboards and hoverboards and use of similar devices under the above-noted conditions are permitted except in the following areas:
Organized in-line skating, skateboarding, roller skating or hoverboarding events are prohibited unless authorized by the Department of Athletics or the regional college administration.
This policy will be enforced by the University Police or by the regional college administration.
It is recommended that users of these devices wear appropriate safety equipment at all times.
Roadways and sidewalks at the University and associated regional college campuses are not designed, built or maintained to meet the requirements of in-line skaters, skateboarders, roller skaters or hoverboarders and therefore are used at the risk of the user of these devices. The University does not accept responsibility for accidents or other consequences arising from the use of these devices.
