The School Welcomes New Faculty Member Dr. WooMi Jo
A warm welcome to Dr. WooMi Jo, joining the School faculty on August 1st.
A warm welcome to Dr. WooMi Jo, joining the School faculty on August 1st.
The School is thrilled to announce our new faculty member, alumnus Dr. William Murray, who will be joining us on July 1st.
William was inspired to teach while earning his Master’s degree from the University of Guelph, and has been honing his research, teaching and communication abilities ever since. He and his family are delighted to come full circle, and join the faculty at the school that started the journey.
Lena Jingen Liang is the School's first graduate of its 2-year old MSc in Tourism and Hospitality. Not only did Lena complete her MSc in record time (4 semesters), but her thesis on the peer-to-peer economy and repurchase intention of Airbnb customers breaks new ground and will be published in a top journal. Congratulations!

Terroir products are food items native to a distinct region and have a unique taste attributed to the area they are grown in.
HFTM Professor Mike von Massow's research project is looking at the potential for terroir in Ontario and is optimistic the demand will only grow.

Professor Justin Taillon and HFTM student JC Hough have published a paper in The Bottomline Magazine, an applied hotel industry publication. The paper deals with recent changes to Ontario and primarily the Toronto hotel scene and projects the future of the Toronto and Ontario markets. This includes the growth of the luxury segment (e.g. Ritz-Carlton, Shangri-La, Four Seasons, Trump), the convention market (Sheraton, Hilton, Delta, Eaton Chelsea), mega events (e.g. Pan-Am Games, Women's World Cup), and how recent changes to oil and the US dollar are impacting cross-border travels.
HFTM is a founding supporter of Anita Stewart's Food Day Canada, a grand celebration of Canadian food that will take place coast to coast on August 1st. This year a group of Canadian chefs, Christopher Jess, Brian Schmeler and our very own Simon Day will be heading to the famous James Beard House in New York City on May 21st to promote Canadian food and host a special dinner 'The Flavors of Canada'.
