Slow Food Club Hosts Author Harry Stoddart

Tonight at 7:00 p.m., the Slow Food Club will be hosting farmer and “Real Dirt” author Harry Stoddart as he delivers a presentation on the impact of our food choices on our future. In Stoddart's presentation he will connect people's dietary choices to solutions to major social problems, and explain how agriculture becomes the best tool for dealing with problems like climate change, preserving biodiversity and ecosystems, and hunger. There will also be a Q&A session and local wine and appetizers will be served.

Culinary Extravaganza in Support of Honey Bee Research

Ten great chefs serve 1,000 dishes for a great cause. On November 11th, chefs from Canada, the United States and England gathered at Toronto's Buca Osteria & Enoteca to raise money in support of Honey Bee Research at the University of Guelph.

Professor Erna van Duren quoted in Globe & Mail

In today's Globe and Mail, HTM Professor Erna van Duren is quoted in the food industry news article, 'Heinz to close Ontario faculty, trim 740 jobs".

"The Berkshire-led buyout of Heinz, announced in February, prompted fears it would begin to close plants in pursuit of efficiencies, said Erna van Duren, a professor at the University of Guelph who works with the food processing industry"

CME Appoints Dr. Martin Gooch as HTM Adjunct Faculty

Photo of Dr. Martin GoochDr. Martin Gooch has been appointed adjunct faculty with the School.  Dr. Gooch has 28 years of management experience in the international agri-food industry, having worked in the UK, New Zealand, Australia, and Canada on product and process innovation and marketing from a value chain perspective.

Advanced Level Wine Certification Now Offered

The School has added the advanced Level 3 Award in Wines & Spirits certification to its current Level 1 and 2 offerings. 

The WSET Level 3 Award in Wines & Spirits is designed to give a more comprehensive coverage of the wines and spirits of the world.  Students will benefit from in-depth tastings where they will learn to identify product style and quality.

The course will be held on six consecutive Saturdays starting March 8th.   Details

HTM will be hosting the inaugural Frankie Tomatto's Restaurant Innovation competition on March 1st, 2014. A student competition to stimulate creation and development of innovative ideas and concepts broadly applicable to the restaurant industry.  Find all details on the website.
