December 19: CME Alumnus Becomes Honour Roll Member for 2012 Uniform Evaluation

Posted on Wednesday, December 19th, 2012

The College of Management and Economics is proud to announce that Management Economics and Finance Alumnus, Kyle Dennhardt is an Honour Roll Member for the 2012 Uniform Evaluation (UFE) given nationally to ensure that all newly qualified Chartered Accountants are proficient in CA competencies.

Kyle wrote the UFE as soon as he completed his undergraduate prerequisites as well as the Core Knowledge Exam and the School of Accountancy Exam. Kyle states, “In roughly a year I will have completed all the required experiences needed to become a Chartered Accountant. Part of the reason I have worked towards becoming a CA is because they are not only acknowledged for their accounting, tax and business knowledge, but also because they are regarded as leaders. Having a professional designation will help create a strong foundation for my future endeavours.”

The annual convocation ceremony and Chartered Accountant Dance will be held on February 23, 2013 where Kyle, along with other Honour Roll Members and successful UFE writers, will be recognized.  When asked how Kyle’s undergraduate career prepared him for the UFE, he states, “My experiences with CME strengthened my business knowledge, especially in finance as this was my focus while at the University of Guelph. As a result, I was a well-rounded candidate for the UFE as finance is one component of the exam.”

Kyle has been a fulltime Staff Accountant with MSCM LLP for a year after completing an eight month co-op term with the firm.  According to Kyle, “MSCM LLP is a great firm that has provided me with some of the best experiences an aspiring CA could ask for. Moving forward, I hope to further develop my career in public practice and advance within the firm.”

Kyle chose to shift his focus from Management Finance and Economics to Accounting during his first eight month co-op term with GE Capital as a financial analyst in their franchise lending department. “I worked with financial statements quite a bit and I found that I enjoyed them. In an effort to expand my education, I researched accounting designations and discovered that a Chartered Accountant was a highly regarded professional. I also learned that I could take the majority of courses necessary to become a CA while completing my Commerce degree.”

While obtaining his degree at the University, Kyle was involved with the Economics and Finance Association as well as the Rotman Commerce Investment Challenge and the CME Trading Simulation. Kyle also further developed his skills in Accounting by serving as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant for Management Accounting.

When giving advice for current students, Kyle states, “For students looking to pursue a professional designation in Accounting it can be a long path. It’s important to have a plan and to focus on one step at a time. It takes a lot of work and commitment, but I think it’s crucial to take time for yourself in order to maintain balance and to stay refreshed and focused.”
