College of Business and Economics celebrates Macdonald Hall donors
The College of Business and Economics officially entered a new era at its Macdonald Hall ribbon cutting ceremony on October 28. The evening celebration recognized the generous contributions made by numerous donors and marked the unveiling of an installation that will remain a permanent fixture in the building’s foyer – now called the Paul MacPherson Marketplace.
The evening paid special tribute to major donors, including MacPherson, as well as Smart Serve Ontario, which was honored with the naming of the Smart Serve Ontario Lecture Hall, a large learning space located in the first floor of the building. The room is equipped with eight, 80" presentation monitors and flexible seating arrangements. George Schmalz, previously Chair of the Board of Smart Serve, his wife Anita and current Chair of the Board Mary D'Alton were recognized at the event.
Donors were also celebrated through remarks made by University of Guelph president Franco Vaccarino, College of Business and Economics dean, Julia Christensen Hughes, MP Lloyd Longfield and MPP Liz Sandals. Attendees also watched a special thank you video featuring faculty and students who spoke about their favourite features in the building.
