As one of 17 teams competing across Canada, the University of Guelph came in third place at the Brock University Accounting Conference (BUAC) in Niagara Falls this weekend. Guelph’s team, comprised of Audrey Fu (Accounting Major), Ahmed Rizk (Management Economics & Finance Major), Kent Santin (Accounting Major) and Jathu Vasantharaja (Accounting Major), came in behind first place Concordia University and second place Carleton University.
Made up of industry and public accounting professionals, the 17 judges assessed Guelph’s case on the implementation of the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). The competition and conference was focused on the theme of change and how accounting firms, businesses and universities will need to adapt to these new reporting standards. So far, 110 countries have already adapted to IFRS.
