PRME Regional North America Meeting to focus on integration of Sustainable Development Goals
Since their introduction in 2015, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have become a crucial force in ending poverty, protecting the planet and ensuring prosperity around the globe. How these goals can be integrated into business education, research and strategic partnerships will be the focus of the PRME Regional North America Meeting being held at the University of Guelph from October 18 to 20.
As the largest organized relationship between the UN and business schools, Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) works to transform management education, research and thought leadership on a global level to develop business leaders who can effectively manage complex business and societal issues in a way that promotes business as a force for good. Promoting the SDGs is a core part of its mission.
“As business educators and researchers, we have an important responsibility to develop leaders who understand that their roles have a huge impact beyond the bottom line,” said Julia Christensen Hughes, dean of the College of Business and Economics at the University of Guelph. “Hosting this meeting gives us a unique opportunity to not only showcase how we integrate the SDGs into our business curriculum and research, but also hear from others who are working towards similar goals at their respective organizations.”
Throughout the two-day event, participants will have the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals and attend a variety of panels discussing different topics related to the meeting’s theme. It will also feature an optional pre-meeting workshop where attendees will learn about local B Corp certified restaurant Miijidaa Bistro, hear from Gavin Armstrong, Founder & CEO Lucky Iron Fish, and visit Crawford Lake where they will share ‘boardwalk papers’ on teaching innovations pertaining to the SDGs.
The University of Guelph is a proud supporter of PRME. It is the only university in Canada recognized as a PRME Champion, which places it among experienced and engaged PRME signatories that are committed to working collaboratively to develop and promote activities that address shared barriers to making broad scale implementation of sustainability principles a reality.
