The College of Business and Economics is proud to announce that five of its faculty members have been granted SSHRC Insight Grants. Economics professors Mike Hoy, Kris Inwood, René Kirkegaard, Alex Maynard and Ilias Tsiakas, have been collectively awarded with more than $360,000 to support their research projects.
One of Canada’s most notable leaders addressed MA Leadership students last week, giving her perspective on leadership as an ever-evolving quality. Dr. Roberta Bondar, who is, among many other accomplishments, Canada’s first woman astronaut and the world’s first neurologist in space, spoke about her life experience and gave students a glimpse of how she continued to shape herself as a leader, while navigating and persevering through high profile life events.

The University of Notre Dame’s iconic Hesburgh Lecture Series recently made its debut at the University of Guelph, welcoming the U of G community to explore the topic of effective leadership with professor Mike Crant, an expert in the field of organizational leadership. The Hesburgh Lecture Series is renowned for promoting intellectual dialogue with distinguished Notre Dame faculty.
Members of the University of Guelph community were given expert advice on building a sustainable enterprise by local business leaders at last week’s Bigger Picture Series event, hosted by the University of Guelph’s Centre for Business and Student Enterprise (CBaSE) and Enactus, a student-led social entrepreneurship association. The event welcomed a panel of four entrepreneurs who have personally experienced developing a new venture.
University of Guelph Accounting students were recently recognized for their outstanding academic achievements at the annual Academic Excellence in Accounting Awards dinner held at the OAC Centennial Arboretum Centre. There were more than 65 people in attendance including representatives from Manulife, CPA Ontario, Embree & Co. LLP, KPMG LLP, RLB LLP, Collins Barrow, Robert Half, BDO Canada LLP and the University of Guelph Board of Governors.

Marketing and consumer studies professors Tirtha Dhar and Tanya Mark, along with Alison Duncan, a professor in the Department of Human Health and Nutritional Sciences, are working with a Canadian food retailer to study the effectiveness of the store’s point-based nutrition labeling system that ranks foods according to their nutritional value.
