Lang recognizes outstanding faculty with teaching and learning awards
Two Lang faculty members have been awarded prestigious awards that recognize excellence in teaching and learning.
Dr. Francis Tapon (Department of Economics and Finance) is the recipient of Lang’s Paul MacPherson Teaching Award of Excellence and Dr. Evelina Rog (Executive Programs) is the recipient of the Casey Cosgrove Teaching Award of Excellence.
“This past year has presented a lot of challenges as we pivoted to remote delivery,” said Dr. Sara Mann, associate dean (academic). “It has been inspiring to see this year’s teaching award of excellence winners dedicate their time and effort to creating such meaningful learning experiences for students and demonstrate such innovation in the virtual classroom. They represent how important active and engaging teaching and learning is here at Lang.”
Dr. Tapon’s commitment to student learning goes beyond the classroom. When the pandemic hit, Tapon used the summer months to effectively pivot his course to a virtual setting to ensure it was delivered in an engaging way that was student centred. Tapon’s commitment to student learning is reflected in testimonials submitted in the nomination package:
The recipient of this year’s Casey Cosgrove Teaching Award of Excellence is Dr. Evelina Rog. The award recognizes the teaching excellence of a sessional instructor at Lang.
In her Personal Skills Self-Assessment course, Rog teaches teamwork, critical thinking and problem-solving skills to enable her students to evolve into more responsible and ethical leaders, better equipping them to lead in our complex and ever-changing world. Her dedication to creating meaningful experiences for students, especially during a switch to online teaching, is evidenced in the feedback from students.
“Dr. Rog created a supportive and challenging learning environment for us by exposing us to unique experiences and holding us to high standards throughout the course. She was incredibly giving of herself and supported us every inch of the way. Her program was transformative and will have a lasting effect on members of the cohort,” stated a Lang Executive Programs student.
