Abstract: Tulips have captivated human interest for centuries, with their vibrant colors and unique shapes. Particularly striped tulips have been highly popular, leading to the “tulipomania” in the Dutch Golden Age. But how do the tulips get their stripes? Maybe Turing can help?
CV: Dr. Thomas Hillen is Professor at the University of Alberta in Canada. After his PhD in Tuebingen, Germany and postdoc positions in Salt Lake City and Tuebingen, Dr. Hillen moved to Alberta in 2001. Dr. Hillen works in the field of mathematical biology with a special interest in the modelling of cell movement and cancer. His mathematical interest employ methods for dynamical systems and partial differential equations. He has written over 100 publications and 7 books. He was active as President of CAIMS (Canadian Applied and Industrial Mathematical Society) a few years ago and he is currently Editor in Chief of the prestigious Journal for Mathematical Biology.
