Abstract: Underwriters in insurance companies play a crucial role in assessing and managing risks associated with insuring individuals. They often rely on Attending Physician Statements (APS) for additional medical information about clients to help make informed decisions. Reviewing an APS can be a tedious task, often involving the examination of hundreds of pages of medical reports. Gen AI models can provide concise summaries of client's health by analyzing the APS and answering any clarifying questions that the underwriter may have. The use case involves a test-and-learn experiment to determine if a Large Language Model (LLM) can accurately summarize an APS and answer underwriting questions. The anticipated outcome is improving the efficiency of the underwriting process while maintaining accuracy in health risk assessment, enhancing the client experience, increasing sales incrementally, and reducing operational expenses.
