New Liskeard Horticulture Unit

The Horticultural Unit at the Ontario Crops Research Centre in New Liskeard (New Liskeard Agricultural Research Station)  has five, 30m x 44m ranges dedicated to horticultural research. Research plots are located on clay loam soil with tile drainage, and have equipment for both drip and overhead irrigation. A three-bay high tunnel was installed in 2010 and dedicated to one range in order to modify the environment on a field scale, and extend the growing season into the spring and fall.

The facility is owned by Agricultural Research and Innovation Ontario and managed by U of G through the Ontario Agri-Food Innovation Alliance.

Research areas and outcomes

Current field research programs focus on day-neutral strawberry management systems, both in the tunnel environment and outside, and fall-bearing and summer-bearing raspberry trials in the field and under two types of protected culture.
