An in-class study of two of Kant’s major works, Prolegomena to any Future Metaphysics and Critique of Judgment, together with an outside reading assignment on his Grounding for the Metaphysics of Morals.
Required texts: Kant, Prolegomena to any Future Metaphysics, second edition (Hackett ISBN 0-87220-593-2); Kant, Critique of Judgment (Hackett ISBN 13:978-0-87220-025-8); Kant, Grounding for the Metaphysics of Morals (Hackett ISBN 13:978-0-87220-166-8).
Course requirements: a) A midterm exam on the Prolegomena to any Future Metaphysics (30%), b) a 2500 word essay on the Grounding for the Metaphysics of Morals (30%), and c) a final exam on the Critique of Judgment (40%).
