This course is cross listed with PHIL*6320*01
A seminar course devoted to the issue of knowledge and skepticism in medieval philosophy. Standard histories of epistemology often give the impression that, although skepticism was a going concern in the Hellenistic period and then later in the early modern period, it was not a serious worry to the medievals. This course will challenge that assumption through readings taken from thinkers such as Augustine, Al-Ghazali and Henry of Ghent. Because the course is a seminar, a high degree of student participation will not only be expected, but required.
