The Edinburgh Market Place is situated on 9.8 acres on the northeast corner of Edinburgh Road and Stone Road and is a successful commercial retail location directly across from Guelph's Stone Road Mall which boasts approximately 7.5 million shopping visitors per year, providing an extensive spin-off benefit to the Edinburgh Market Place.
In 1995, the University of Guelph entered into a land lease agreement with Hammerson Canada Inc. to develop this 10 acre site. Edinburgh Market Place opened for business in 1996 and has remained successful from the outset. In 1998, the Hammerson land lease was assigned to OMERS Realty Management Corporation and managed by Oxford Properties. In 2003, the lease was assigned to Primaris Retail REIT and Oxford continued to manage. In January 2010, Primaris Management Inc. assumed the management services to Edinburgh and its tenants.
Edinburgh Market Place boasts anchor tenant Metro at 50,719 sf along with TD Canada Trust, Mark's Work Wearhouse, Rogers Video, Toys R Us Express, Fionn MacCools, Williams Coffee Pub, and other prosperous retail stores and businesses.
