Robert Hilton
Rob’s ties to the University of Guelph start with his late father Dr. Robert J. Hilton who was Department Head of Horticultural Sciences at Guelph and spearheaded the creation of Guelph’s landscape architecture program as well as being the founding director of the University’s Arboretum.
Rob first graduated from Guelph with a Diploma in Landscape Design and Nursery Management before graduating with a BLA in 1976. Rob and his then business partner, classmate Tom Foster, were independent practitioners right from graduation and enjoyed an award winning practice for 20 years. Keenly aware of demographic trends, projects were wide ranging, taking them stateside, to Europe and to the Middle East. When Tom’s career path changed in 1996, Rob evolved Hilton Foster Limited to Hilton Landmarks Inc., specializing in cemeteries and has completed to date over 550 commissions across Canada and the USA. Rob is based in Kitchener, Ontario.
