What can educators do to interrupt oppression in teaching and working contexts? Plenty! And it requires courage. By looking inward and also critically examining their courses and the environment around them, educators are in a unique position to influence their peers, their course delivery and the institution itself. Moving Bravely Forward takes a deep dive into anti-oppression approaches for educators interested in shifting the quality of conversations toward greater authenticity and inclusive practice. Through self-reflection, group discussion, video and skills-based practice, workshop participants will learn to:

  • Create a brave space to engage students in critical conversations
  • Uncover and speak about social location, power and privilege
  • Identify types of microaggressions in the learning environment
  • Interrupt oppressive behaviour
  • View allyship through the lens of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission
